Only to continue the construction work on I Even coming from Illinois, where driving on the road is like a round of Mario Kart to avoid pot holes, a roadway that has had construction for over 50 years takes the cake. However, from what I've been told from Iowa Department of Transportation District Transportation Manager Dakin Schultz, any major construction will be over by the end of this year. I hate traffic and construction just as much as the next person. You've probably seen me in my little white car aggressively pushing people along Minnesota Avenue trying to get home after work.
However, I get both sides of this argument. I would not want to go to a city that is just known for construction, but at the same time this road way is important to this region of the U.
Well, I've learned it's an issue the city has had to deal with. The city's waste water treatment plant and industrial plants are located within the downtown area, contributing to the smell. Sioux City Waste Water Treatment Plant Pretreatment Coordinator Craig Samek said that the city has actually sprayed chemicals to contain the smell recently, and since then complaints have gone down.
And by the way, Sioux Falls, you're not off the hook. There have been many times I've gone outside, and it smells like a freshly fertilized field downtown. From what I've been told that's the Smithfield plant. I'm heading to Sioux City in two weeks, so I'll let you know which scent activates my gag reflex more.
This is very unfortunate. Sioux City has two in the same mall. We have it pretty good, folks. Don't even get us started about the trains. Winter usually sets in around late October and can last up to April. There have even been times where Christmas and Halloween have been cancelled due to snow.
After a long, brutal winter you look forward to the promise of spring. But you know what comes with nice weather: construction. As soon as the weather gets nice, construction begins. No matter where you go in this city, they are always working on the roads and you have to take detours or sit in traffic a bit. Oh, and with the nice weather, we can't forget about the potholes.
This is ultimately huge all over Iowa, but I don't know if anyone can eat ranch dressing like us. We eat it with fries, pizza, wings, salads and just about anything. Restaurants in Sioux City usually bring out sides of ranch for your food without you asking. Often when pizza is served, the waitress will immediately ask, "Do I need to bring any sides of ranch? And you try to hold back a laugh. This city was named after an Indian tribe and it's simply pronounced "Sue City".
But no matter what you tell people, they still don't seem to get it. This is the annual biking trip that thousands take part in. People bike across Iowa in the span of a week. Sioux City campaigns annually to be the starting or end point of the biking trip. And when they win the bid, you know it.
Thousands of bikers pour into the city and many pitch tents in various yards before waking up early the next morning to take off. Each year you see it you can't help but wonder, "How crazy do they have to be to bike across Iowa? No matter how much you complain that there's nothing to do and it's such a dead town and you can't wait to leave, each time you return you get a flood of memories, good and bad.
As soon as you see and smell the city and see the "Welcome to Sioux City" sign that just always seems to have a light out, you know you're home. No matter how far away you go, you know you can return and pick up exactly where you left off. Old friends, classmates and family members will see you and you forget why you left the city for a little bit.
No matter how much you try, you'll always have a little soft spot for good old Sioux City Sue! Nowadays, many working adults, high school graduates, and retired lifelong learners are choosing to advance their careers, lives, and personal knowledge by completing school at home.
The rising popularity of online college and graduate school degrees has completely changed the face of education and student life. It's no longer necessary to pack up all your belongings and head off to a distant locale in order to earn a diploma. If you feel the temptation to cut costs, save time, and take advantage of the incredible benefits of online learning and convenience of at-home study, it's essential to know the key facts about online degrees before signing up for a course of study.
Many people still worry about the legitimacy of tele-study, while others wonder how to finance the coursework. So, if you're ready to become a distance learner, review all the relevant issues related to financing, checking credentials of schools, work-life balance, expenses, and what it takes to earn good grades. Here are more details about each point. Non-traditional methods of earning degrees, primarily via computer-based courses, are fully legitimate.
In fact, many of the world's top universities and colleges offer both in-person and distance curricula. However, it is still imperative to check the credentials of any institution before making any payments. Check accreditation status, read reviews from former students, and call the admissions office to inquire about how to apply. If your educational goals include an advanced degree, it's worth looking into private graduate student loans.
Working through a private lender, most prospective pupils can obtain enough money to pay for all degree-related expenses, take advantage of competitive rates, and get access to suitable repayment terms. This is especially helpful for current college grads who want to get their MBA, JD, or other specialty degrees to qualify for high-paying jobs.
If you struggle to define balance in your life , this will surely help you. There's no question about one fact in that e-degrees offer the best work-life balance situation possible. That's primarily because class scheduling is highly flexible, most programs are self-paced, and you can do homework whenever it fits into your work week, assuming you hold a job while you're in school. Universities and colleges can earn high profit margins on e-courses because a vast majority of the classroom sessions are taped and can be viewed at any time.
In short, schools spend much less on e-students than on those who live and matriculate on campus. In general, expect to pay about half the cost of a traditional diploma when you are a remote learner.
One thing that's often overlooked when comparing all the differences between traditional and computer-based curricula is the discipline factor. If you intend to opt for an e-degree, make sure you have the self-control to watch every video lesson, take part in live discussions, study for exams, and write papers. For some, it's far too easy to give in to the temptations of TV, social media, and other distractions when earning a degree from the comfort of home. I am saying one thing that I am thankful each day for until Thanksgiving.
You try it to it will bring you joy. November 1st, I am thankful for God and Jesus. I put my faith in them, they protect and help me through the happy and the sad in life.
I could not imagine a world without them. November 2nd, I am thankful for sweets. I love them. Sweets can make me joyful when I am upset.
They make my sweet tooth go at ease. Especially Lava Cakes. November 3rd, I love my family. They push me to be the best I can be. My family supports me and always cheers me up when I am down. My family cares so much about me and will do anything for me if it is legal. I really couldn't imagine a world without them. November 4th, I am thankful for my teachers. The odor from the Iowa Beef Processors plant in Dakota City and a livestock truck washout business wafted through our car.
About halfway across the bridge, we were met with other foul odors likely from a pet food plant, the John Morrell Plant, the stockyards, and the NutraFlo plant, all less than a mile away upwind. It turned out that the joke was on me, or rather, us. He said another newspaper owner had given my name and phone number to him told him I might be interested in a job. He said he had an opening for a reporter and wanted me to come down to South Sioux City and meet with him. After two hours of talking about newspapers, my background, and visiting about friends we had in common in the newspaper business, the owner offered me a job.
I talked to Nancy that evening and we decided it would be the best option available at that time. I called the owner back to accept his offer, then asked when he wanted me to start. Nancy gave her notice at her work and we found a decent two bedroom apartment in South Sioux City that would let us have our cat there. I commuted from Sioux Falls through the month of December and we moved in on Dec.
Nancy soon found a job as a secretary at a substance abuse treatment center. I worked as a reporter and photographer at the paper and became editor the following summer. I stayed as editor of the Star for two and a half years before returning to the counseling profession at an agency in Sioux City, IA.
Well, we really like it here. Sioux City and its people grew on us. And while Sioux City is nothing like some of the cities in the southwest, it seems far more diverse than our rapidly growing neighbor 90 miles north of here.
People are friendly here, too. We attend events like plays, concerts, arts festivals, etc. When we lived in Sioux Falls the last time that city had grown so much, had such an influx of new people, that we seldom saw friends or acquaintances at events around town. Even now, we are hard put to run into anyone we know whenever we visit Sioux Falls for dinner, shopping, etc. Another thing I like about living here is the scenery and nature. The foliage of the trees during the fall in the Loess Hills is something special to behold.
There are lakes nearby and within a minute drive. The evening sun setting on or morning sun rising over the Missouri River is a magical sight. Watching the rolling hills in the area covered by native grasses or crops turn from brown to green to gold and back to brown again is a delight.
And then there are the geese making their way up and down the Missouri River flyway each spring and fall.
